Looking for winter RV storage in Kerrville? Cooler weather brings a lot of RVs into the Hill Country and sends others into storage until spring. Whether you are parking a travel trailer between trips, putting a fifth wheel away for the winter, or just tired of a motorhome blocking the driveway, Mount Storage Kerrville at 3630 Medina Hwy has open RV spaces and enclosed drive-up units on TX 16, a short drive from Ingram, Hunt, Center Point and Comfort. Here is how to choose the right space and get your rig ready to sit for a few months.
Why store your RV on Medina Hwy
TX 16 is the road Kerrville RVers use most. Under the TxDOT route description it runs through Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Medina and Bandera, so from the gate you can head north toward Fredericksburg or south toward Medina and Bandera without crossing town. When it is time for a longer trip, I-10 is close by in Kerrville.
Storing off your property also helps with HOA rules, narrow driveways and street-parking limits, and it frees up the garage or side yard. The gate opens at 5 AM and closes at 11 PM every day, so an early start on a Saturday trip is not a problem.
Open RV spaces or an enclosed unit?
Kerrville has two kinds of vehicle storage right now. RV and boat storage in Kerrville starts at $39 a month.
- Open parking spaces (12’x30′ and 12’x35′) for travel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, boats on trailers and work trailers. Measure bumper to hitch (or tongue), add a couple of feet, and pick the space that clears it.
- Enclosed drive-up units (10’x20′, 10’x25′ and 10’x30′) for a car, truck, pop-up camper, small boat, side-by-side or utility trailer that you want out of the sun and behind a door. See all large storage units in Kerrville.
Check your RV’s height and length before you rent; most enclosed units fit a car or a small trailer, not a full-size camper. If you are unsure, the storage unit size guide shows what fits in each size.
Winter RV prep checklist
Hill Country winters are mild most days, but freezing nights still happen. Follow your owner’s manual first; this list covers the basics most owners handle before a few months in storage.
Water system
- Drain the fresh, gray and black tanks, and dump and rinse the holding tanks before you arrive.
- Drain the water heater (turn it off first and let it cool) and open the low-point drains.
- Blow out the lines or add RV antifreeze rated for potable systems, following the manufacturer’s steps.
Power, engine and tires
- Disconnect or remove the house batteries, or use a battery disconnect, so they do not drain flat.
- For motorhomes and tow vehicles, fill the tank and add fuel stabilizer, then run the engine briefly to circulate it.
- Inflate tires to the recommended pressure and cover them to cut sun damage.
Inside the coach
- Empty the fridge and pantry, prop the fridge door open and wipe surfaces to keep pests and odors away.
- Close vents and blinds, check roof seals, and set out moisture absorbers.
- Take valuables and paperwork home, and turn the propane off at the tank.
Gear that does not fit in the RV
Camping chairs, grills, kayaks, generators and spare hoses add up fast. A small storage unit in Kerrville (5’x10′) holds seasonal camping gear for $34 a month, and medium units (10’x10′ and 10’x15′) start at $74 a month if you are also clearing out a garage. If you are downsizing at the same time, our Kerrville guide to downsizing, RVs and hunting gear has more ideas.
How renting works
Pick a space online, e-sign and pay in a few minutes, and get your gate code by email. You can move in the same day, seven days a week, and rentals are month-to-month, so you can keep the space through spring and give notice when the rig goes back on the road. Online prices are move-in specials for the first 3 months. The location also lists discounts for seniors over 65 and for military. Questions? Common questions
What size space do I need for a 30-foot travel trailer?
Measure the full length including the hitch. A 30-foot trailer usually runs longer than 30 feet overall, so a 12’x35′ open space is the safer choice.
Can I store a boat or car instead of an RV?
Yes. Open spaces fit boats on trailers and other vehicles, and the enclosed 10’x20′ to 10’x30′ units fit a car, truck or small boat indoors.
Can I get to my RV early in the morning?
Yes. The gate at Mount Storage Kerrville is open 5 AM to 11 PM every day, so you can pick up the rig before sunrise and be back after dinner.
